With councils struggling to house those in need, private landlords have rushed to fill the gap and have now become a major provider of accommodation to tenants on housing benefit, receiving billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money each year. In this programme, Antony Barnett reveals that while many landlords provide good homes, there are some exploiting the benefit system to make millions from supplying poor accommodation, often putting lives at risk.
The programme is Channel 4’s award-winning investigative current affairs programme and has been running since 1987.
