The Go-Between – 20 September 2015


One of the most influential British novels of the 20th century Written by LP Hartley, The Go-Between is a story of forbidden passion, Edwardian strictures, betrayal and tragic naivety.

Through the eyes of a callow 12-year-old middle-class boy, the story is told and begins when he is invited by upper-class school friend Marcus Maudsley to stay at his elegant family home during the summer of 1900. He immediately becomes enraptured by his friend’s family and more specifically his beautiful, older sister.
