The staff at St George’s A&E in south-west London tend to 59-year-old Debbie, who cut her hand on her lawnmower while distracted by thoughts of her son’s forthcoming wedding. Also visiting the emergency room is 70-year-old George, whose eye has been impaled by a piece of driftwood, after he fell while bailing rainwater from his boat moored on the Thames. Plus, eight-year-old Phoebe arrives after accidentally sitting on a pair of scissors she left on a chair – getting them stuck in her thigh.

The documentary 24 Hours in A&E follows the staff and patients of St. George’s Hospital as they cope with a typical day’s shift in the emergency department.
