We return to the costume crime drama, and Geordie (Robson Green) is now playing cupid for stubbornly single Sidney. We see a montage of awkward (and awkwardly played) dates at which the detective and his wife play chaperone. Naturally, when Sidney’s dear friend Amanda (Morven Christie) then comes to stay it’s clear where our vicar’s heart really lies… if only she weren’t married.

But these romantic troubles are the background music. In the foreground is a tortuous mystery about an academic who has fallen to his death from the roof of King’s College Chapel. Did he jump or was he pushed? Finding out threatens to drive a wedge between cleric and cop.
