Taboo is written by Stephen Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders. It has a similarly rum take on period drama. But just as importantly it has Tom Hardy in the leading role as James Delaney.
Delaney is a mysterious adventurer who returns from Africa to London in 1814, for the funeral of his father.
Seeking vengeance for the death of his father, Delaney sets to inherit what is left of his family’s shipping empire. His arrival not only threatens to disrupt the plans of his half-sister Zilpha and her husband Thorne, but also the political ambitions of the mighty East India Company, chaired by Sir Stuart Strange.
Oona Chaplin, Jefferson Hall and Jonathan Pryce also star.
