The documentary follows the lives of the miners who work at Kellingley colliery in North Yorkshire. It’s due to close shortly which means it will see the last closure of deep-coal mining in Britain.
Shift manager Jonesy and his men are under pressure to cut enough coal to pay off the pit’s debts, ensure their redundancy pay is safe and try to secure themselves a future beyond the mine. A number of mechanical breakdowns put them behind schedule, prompting assistant pit manager Pete to get his hands dirty and go down the mine to help sort things out.
